Death, suffering and disease are borderline situations and at the same time categories of lifelong education – a specific problem/issue of andragogy. This text is dedicated to the deceased actors Anna Przybylska and Krzysztof Kolberger and is the philosophical basis for a more detailed reflection that takes place on the basis of the pedagogical subdiscipline mentioned. On the one hand, it is possible to bring abstract philosophical problems to the most real aspects of empirical and human existence, the reader will be convinced to this through the comparison of the relevant parts of the text with excerpts from the writing of H.-G. Gadamer, M. Heidegger, P. Jarvis. On the other hand, the author emphasises that an existential and hermeneutically oriented adult education should be the basis for a critical perception of the contemporary, cultural and social patterns of the relation to death and its determinants, that is, banalizing death and avoiding experiencing its reality. The essence is the role that death, suffering and disease play in shaping the relationship of subjects to themselves, noticing a constructive moment beyond the destructive element. Terminal situations emphasise goals and tasks of the subject of lifelong education (self-education, self-education), emphasizing, among others, life experiences as the basis of educational and developmental potential.
